Oakwood High School Magazine Evaluation
There are a few ways that my magazine uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products. I would say that I used techniques that are in real magazines such as I put a barcode on and I also made sure that it had a date and a price. My main challenge from a real magazine is my attempt to look as natural looking as a real school magazine. I would say that my magazine devolved more as a school magazine than a fashions magazine as my Oakwood magazine has the right information for a school magazine, as a fashion magazine would not be talking about school lunches.
I used a few technologies to create my magazine. To create Oakwood’s front cover i used Photoshop, and to create the contents I used QuarkXPress. I have used Media technologies in the sense that I have made the background purple for an all girls school, as purple is seen more as a girly colour. This is good as more girls will see it and be more likely to buy it. I have also made sure the subheadings relate to school for example ‘New school dinners what do you think?’ I have used this as school dinners as it ties in well as this is a big part of a school. This way it attracts the students to the magazine. I have also used bold text and different colures font. I also put in a yellow star with free in it to make the word free stand out.
In the end creating and seeing the finishing products of my magazine there were a few strengths and weaknesses. I would say that my main strength was using Photoshop for my front cover, as I am a lot more familiar with Photoshop so I knew how to use it. However QuarkXPress has the columns on the page already which made setting out my contents are a lot simpler. I would say my biggest weakness was coming up with enough subheads. As my main plan was to do a double page spread, but however with a lack of time and without being able to think of enough subheading I ended up only doing one page for my contents page. All together though I was pleased with how my magazine front cover and contents age turned out.
